Michaela Trudeau, MS

Graduate Research Assistant

Michaela (Mickie) Trudeau is graduate student originally from Hastings, Minnesota. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in December of 2014 where she graduated summa cum laude. After graduation, Mickie immediately started her MS program at the University of Minnesota studying swine nutrition with Dr. Jerry Shurson and Dr. Pedro Urriola. Her MS research focused on the survival of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus in swine feed and she worked in collaboration with virologists at the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

Mickie is currently continuing her PhD at the University of Minnesota in swine nutrition. Her main thesis project focuses on her interest in swine health and nutrition by investigating antibiotic alternatives in nursery pigs. In addition to her thesis project, Mickie is involved in a variety of other research projects including the development of in-vitro swine enteroid models with Dr. Milena Saqui-Salces, evaluating the metabolome of growing pigs fed antibiotics, and working with Dr. Zhikai Zeng on a meta-analysis investigating the impact of exogenous enzymes in swine diets.

Mickie plans to graduate in the summer of 2019 and is looking forward to a career in the swine industry.
